about

I want to acknowledge people in or behind the recordings: Chris Blais, David Fountain, Nathan Green, Ben Holst, Nathan Sadler, Mark Van Allen, Andrew Altman and Scott Campbell – musical friends, heroes and teachers. Four of the songs on this collection I borrowed: “A Place to Put a Dram” was written by Andrew Altman, “Belly of the Beast” was written by David Fountain, and Scott Campbell wrote and performed “Nothing is Still” - and "32-20" is a Robert Johnson song. You’ll find a mix of live recordings, home demos, and studio takes that I never put out there. I hope you enjoy.

Dedication:
This is for Scott Campbell: friend, guitar hero, teacher and gentle soul. I included his song, “Nothing is Still” on this album because to me it’s is about growing up and I think it’s about going away and becoming yourself - something Scott helped realized during my apprenticeship as a folksinger and songwriter in Northern Florida. I was always so happy to be around Scott - and I tried to play better around him (although maybe I was trying to hard back then). It was so clear he was beyond me as a a musician - but he was open to have me play and to help me learn from my mistakes - and as you can tell on the song “Sticks and Stones” and “Belly of the Beast”, he just makes everything sound better! I most definitely a better musician because of Scott - And this has made me a better person.

Although he passed away too soon in 2017, Scott is and always had been a legend in the Tallahassee Music Scene, with a knack for guitar tones like Buddy Miller and an ear like Ry Cooder. He had great taste in music and people - He played every kind of blues, acid rock and boogie music, bluegrass & country, jazz, acoustic, rock, hippie, jazz, Latin - I have seen Scott in so many different bands - yet he stayed in Tallahassee, letting the music come to him, and catching it as he mastered his craft. Even having the chance to play, learn and perform with Scott was the guitar hero experience of my lifetime - but these days I just miss his friendship. So I’m grateful not just for his Swamp Train slide guitar sound, (which I never will forget), but his smile and his friendship. His album “An Old Photo” is on Itunes – and I truly think it’s worth many listens. I am glad I have some of his live recordings that no one else probably has. It’s nice to see old friends.

Proceeds:
All proceeds after basic costs for production will go to The Miami Foundation’s Community Recovery Fund who will provide unrestricted operating support to local nonprofits striving to sustain essential response services as well as those whose ability to restart operations has been severely undermined. To learn more about The Miami Foundation and its Community Recovery Fund visit miamifoundation.org/the-miami-foundation-launches-new-community-recovery-fund-supporting-local-nonprofits-hit-hard-by-covid-19-response.

I have had nothing but positive experience with the Miami Foundation and trust they will get the money to the people who need it the most to make an impact.
